Motorcyclist Suspected of Assaulting Police Officer Arrested

(Miri, 5th) A confrontation occurred when police carried out a midnight operation to crack down on illegal street racing in Miri. A young motorcyclist was arrested for allegedly assaulting an on-duty police officer while attempting to evade inspection.
The incident happened at around 2am on May 3 at an intersection along the Miri bypass. The Royal Malaysia Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit was conducting enforcement operations targeting modified motorcycles and suspected street racing activities.
Police stated that a 24-year-old man was carrying a 16-year-old girl as a passenger when he was stopped for a routine inspection.

As officers approached to inspect the motorcycle, the man suddenly became agitated and tried to escape, resulting in a brief scuffle between both parties.
One police officer sustained minor injuries during the process but continued with his duties until the operation concluded, after which he sought treatment at Miri Hospital.
The suspect was arrested on the spot. The police also seized a motorcycle suspected to be illegally modified and a mobile phone, which reportedly contained obscene video content.
The police are investigating the case under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which involves using force to obstruct a public servant in the discharge of his duty. If convicted, the suspect may face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both.
Additionally, the man is also under investigation under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possession of obscene materials. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
The police have applied to the court for a remand order on May 4 to facilitate further investigations.
The police are urging any members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
