(Kuching, 14th) With the Sarawak government planning to build a new four-lane road connecting the Sarawak Foundation Roundabout to Bandar Damai, as well as constructing a brand new Samarahan Bridge, the Samarahan area is set to undergo a significant transformation.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said that the project aims to strengthen the road network, enhance the convenience of residents’ lives, and make travel to and from the area easier for both residents and tourists.
He pointed out that the current road has many potholes, an uneven surface, and severe traffic congestion. Therefore, a new four-lane road will be built from the Sarawak Foundation Roundabout directly to Damai Beach, along with the construction of a new bridge.
Speaking at the key handover ceremony for the “Spektra Permata” under the Samarahan Village Expansion Plan (SPK) held in Kuching, Abang Johari mentioned that the new road will also include a dedicated lane for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), as well as special lanes for motorcycles and bicycles, all aimed at improving overall traffic efficiency and safety.
Abang Johari called on local residents to fully cooperate during the years of construction ahead to ensure the smooth progress of the works.
He stressed that this development plan aims to advance Samarahan to a higher level of development. With the construction of an archaeological park and plans for a long wharf that can accommodate cruise ships, Samarahan is set to become one of the most representative areas within Kuching city, attracting even more domestic and international tourists.
