The 18th Asian Film Awards announced on the 5th the 'Excellence in Asian Cinema Award' jointly awarded to Korean star Jang Dong-gun and Tang Wei. Both are expected to attend the award ceremony on the 16th to receive the honor.
Jang Dong-gun expressed that receiving recognition from the Asian Film Awards after a career spanning over 30 years is a great honor. He noted that Hong Kong films have deeply impacted him, "The first movie I ever watched in a theater was Jackie Chan's 'Drunken Master.'" He also said that during his high school years, Hong Kong films filled his entire youth, especially gangster movies.
Jang Dong-gun previously worked with Cecilia Cheung and Nicholas Tse in Chen Kaige's film 'The Promise' and collaborated with Cecilia Cheung again in 'Dangerous Liaisons.' He mentioned, "Cecilia Cheung is the only actress I've worked with in more than one film, it's destiny." He also expressed great admiration for Tony Leung, saying that if they could collaborate someday, it would be an unforgettable experience.
Tang Wei remarked that Hong Kong has always been a lucky place for her and that she is thrilled to be returning there to receive the award, "What I want is to make interesting films with interesting people. Collaborating with great teams to create unforgettable stories." Reflecting on her promotional visit to Hong Kong last year, Tang Wei said she missed it very much and looked forward to Hong Kong directors reaching out to her for films again. The 18th Asian Film Awards will be held on March 16 at the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District.
