(Miri, 4th) The Sarawak Indigenous Intellectuals Society (PERANTIS) and the Sarawak Regional Skills Bureau will hold the 2025 Miri Youth Empowerment Expo on the 12th of this month, from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm at the Miri Indoor Stadium.

Miri Member of Parliament, Chiew Choon Man, stated at a press conference held at the Tanjung People's Community Service Center today that the expo will focus on guidance and leading, which is very important for today's group, as choosing the wrong path can lead to problems in the future. As changes in educational and career demands often prioritize a balance between the two, this strategy is particularly important.

He said that the event will be officiated by the Malaysian Minister of Works, Dato' Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, demonstrating his emphasis on youth development.

“The event is aimed at Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) graduates, providing urban and rural students with the space and opportunities to receive a good education, enabling them to be competitive in the labor market. Anticipated educational visits include current educational information.”

He also said that the Unity Government is committed to developing youth vocational education, so by participating in the program, SPM and STPM graduates, whether academically successful or not, have the opportunity to choose courses or educational fields that suit their qualifications and interests.

“It also includes providing soft skills or technical skills training that suits their qualifications and interests, as well as assistance services during diploma or degree level studies, allowing graduates to acquire various additional skills to be competitive in the highly competitive job market.”

Reportedly, 24 institutions, companies, and schools are participating in the 2025 Miri Youth Empowerment Expo, including Yahos Skills School, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak (UiTM), Curtin University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), Swinburne University, Miri Vocational College, Sarawak Agriculture Institute (IPS), Sarawak Regional Skills Development Division (JPKWS), Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP), Riam Institute of Technology, Miri PPKS, Sarawak State PTPTN and MyFutureJobs (SOCSO) IG Training Center.

This event is being held for the first time in Miri, having previously been held in Sibu and Mukah, and has received enthusiastic support and participation from local people.
