The National Defense and Security Council of Myanmar held a meeting in Naypyidaw on the 31st and decided to extend the nationwide state of emergency for another six months.

According to Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), the meeting discussed issues related to Myanmar's national defense and security, agriculture, education, health, post-disaster reconstruction, peace process, census, and election preparations.

In February 2021, the then Acting President of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing, announced a one-year nationwide state of emergency and transferred state power to the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services. Myanmar has since extended the nationwide state of emergency multiple times. On July 31, 2024, the National Defense and Security Council of Myanmar decided to extend the nationwide state of emergency for another six months.

Earlier, Myanmar authorities stated that they plan to hold elections this year. Some analysts point out that since elections cannot be held under the state of emergency, the earliest the Myanmar elections can be held is in the second half of this year.
