(Miri, 6th) Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the Miri Disaster Management Committee has established a working group led by the Miri Resident's Office to assess and coordinate Program Gotong-royong Komuniti Pasaca Bencana Banjir in eight areas in Miri.
He said the first activity was launched this morning in Kampung Pujut Sungai Adong and received active participation from more than 400 people. However, activities in areas affected by landslides such as Kampung Lereng Bukit and Kampung Haji Wahid, and areas still experiencing flooding such as Suai, Niah, and Marudi, will be postponed.
Lee Kim Shin made this statement during a press conference after Program Gotong-royong Komuniti Pasaca Bencana Banjir meeting of the Miri Disaster Management Committee.
He pointed out that the working group will collect information from all flood relief units and, after assessment, the Miri Resident's Office will coordinate the dates and methods for cleanup work, while distributing flyers to inform residents to place damaged items outside for collection by the cleanup teams.
"The continuous floods have resulted in a large accumulation of garbage and debris, affecting residents' living environments. Therefore, relying solely on the city council for cleaning is insufficient, and community strength must be leveraged. Cleaning activities will be carried out in batches across different areas, so we hope to improve cleaning efficiency through cooperation to help disaster areas quickly restore cleanliness and safety."
He also mentioned that the Miri Health Department urges the public to be aware of dengue fever transmission and will monitor the hygiene of restaurants affected by floods.
