(Our Miri Correspondent, 13th) With the rapid industrial development and continuous urban expansion in Sarawak, the demand for water resources has reached unprecedented heights. Curtin University, in collaboration with multiple organizations, will host the “Miri Water Resources Forum 2025” on August 23, aiming to chart a blueprint for the sustainable development of Sarawak’s water infrastructure.
The one-day event will bring together government leaders, industry experts, academia, and civil society representatives to discuss practical and forward-looking solutions for both urban and rural water systems.
Ir. Ts. Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan, Director of the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), will deliver the keynote speech. Afterwards, a high-level panel discussion will take place, featuring senior representatives from the Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia, Sarawak Water Sdn. Bhd., the Department of Environment (DOE), the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), and Curtin University Malaysia.
Organising Chair Dr. Ir. Tan Yee Yong pointed out that Sarawak is transforming into a regional hub for industry and green energy, making water resources the lifeblood for sustainable development.
He stated that while Sarawak enjoys abundant surface water resources, effective management and the construction of modern infrastructure are key to meeting future needs.
He added that the forum will focus on innovative technologies, strategic planning, and collaborative models, exploring these issues in the context of Sarawak's unique geography and socioeconomic situation.
He emphasized that this is a call to action, urging all stakeholders to work together to shape the future of Sarawak’s water sector.
The forum is free and open to the public, but seats are limited, and early registration is recommended. The forum will also serve as a platform or town hall to engage various sectors in sharing and discussing water infrastructure development plans.
