(US, 18th) US President Trump said he will be having a conversation with Russian President Putin on Monday (May 19th), after which he will communicate with Ukrainian President Zelensky and NATO officials to express his desire to achieve a ceasefire.
According to AFP, Trump said on Saturday (17th) that he will talk to Putin on Monday (19th) to discuss how to end this "bloody massacre." Kremlin spokesman Peskov said the call is "being prepared."
Earlier on Saturday, the Kremlin stated that Putin and Zelensky can only have a meeting after the Russian and Ukrainian sides reach an agreement.
The day before, Ukraine and Russia held their first direct talks since 2022 in Istanbul, reaching an agreement to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war on each side.
Ukraine's chief negotiator, Defense Minister Umerov, said the "next step" would be a meeting between Zelensky and Putin.
Russia's chief negotiator Meginsky said Moscow and Kyiv will "propose their respective visions for a potential ceasefire," but did not specify an exact time.
