China’s 8-day Golden Week holiday has ended. According to estimates from the Data Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, there were 888 million domestic trips nationwide, a rise of 123 million compared to the 7-day National Day holiday in 2024. Total domestic tourism spending reached 809.006 billion yuan (479.314 billion ringgit), up 108.189 billion yuan (64.099 billion ringgit) from the 7-day National Day holiday in 2024.
With National Day coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival, people’s enthusiasm for travel surged. Red tourism sites such as Jinggangshan in Jiangxi and Yan’an in Shaanxi attracted visitors by innovating exhibitions and interactive experiences. The “Moonwalk” at Shanghai Astronomy Museum was hugely popular, while the Hubei Provincial Museum and Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum held special Mid-Autumn night events.
Beyond domestic travel, inbound tourism also witnessed a boom. Foreign tourists flocked to attractions like Ciqikou Ancient Town in Chongqing and the Great Tang All Day Mall in Xi’an, with cultural and shopping tours particularly favored by international visitors.
