Former Thai MP from the Move Forward Party, Amarat Chokepamitkul, danced naked performing traditional Thai dance as a vow fulfillment after former Thai Prime Minister Paitongtan was dismissed from office.
According to Thai media 'The Thaiger', as early as June 6, Amarat publicly made a vow on Facebook, expressing hope that Paitongtan could be removed from office before 2025. At the time, she swore that if her wish came true, she would dance naked in front of the sacred statue where she had prayed, to fulfill her commitment.
On August 29th, Thailand's Constitutional Court ruled that Paitongtan had seriously violated the moral code of Thai politicians after a phone call with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, and must step down. This made Amarat's wish come true.
The incident originated from rising border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia over territorial disputes. When Paitongtan spoke with Hun Sen, she was criticized for weakening the Thai military, even saying she was "like Hun Sen's niece" to seek sympathy, and was accused of implying her willingness to satisfy Hun Sen's demands in exchange for border peace.
With her wish fulfilled, Amarat carried out her commitment. On September 1st, she performed the vow repayment in a temple in Nakhon Pathom province, dancing naked in a tent encircled by white cloth, and uploaded the video to Facebook.
Her supporters praised her for keeping her word. Amarat further confessed to the media that she is not entirely superstitious; she made the vow out of anger and dissatisfaction, but having said it, she felt obliged to fulfill her promise.
