Veteran Hong Kong actress Suet Nei passed away from pancreatic cancer in a hospital on the 3rd, at the age of 78. Her husband, Tong Kai, was a renowned martial arts director and was 10 years her senior. The couple shared a loving relationship, but he took his own life on the 23rd of last month. Only 10 days later, Suet Nei also departed this world to reunite with him in heaven. The family has stated that a joint funeral will be held for the couple.

Suet Nei, whose real name was Hung Suet Nei, entered the entertainment industry at the age of 18. Over seven years, she appeared in more than 40 films, and rose to fame as the leading female martial arts star in Cantonese films with the adaptation of Ni Kuang’s novel "The Black Rose." She met Tong Kai — who worked as a martial arts director — through work, and romance blossomed from their collaboration. After marriage, she temporarily left the screen to care for her husband and children. The couple immigrated to Canada, and only after their two sons grew up did they return to Hong Kong, where she resumed her career. Their relationship remained close; he was once photographed waiting three hours to pick her up from work, showing his deep devotion to his wife.

Later, however, Suet Nei was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had to be hospitalized for treatment. She also became deaf in her ears. Her husband, Tong Kai, stayed by her side at all times to prevent any accidents. The long-term caregiving took an emotional toll on him, and he confided his distress to their son, expressing a wish to follow his wife into the afterlife. In the end, he passed away before her.
