China's video platform will hold the "Starlight Awards" ceremony in Haikou on the 21st. The organizer previously announced the list of guests and set up a fan ranking list for idols. The results were released on the 15th. The top three were the popular boy group "Teens in Times (TNT)", rising star Ju Jingyi, and Zhao Lusi. Notably, Ju Jingyi "fought 1 against 7," single-handedly taking on all seven members of Teens in Times. The fans of both camps battled fiercely, and at one point Ju Jingyi's votes even surpassed the group, though she eventually fell short by 50,000 Starlight points. Nevertheless, she still secured second place with 53 million points, far ahead of third place Zhao Lusi's 31 million points, making her the undisputed top female star and the highest-ranking individual in the competition.
Netizens were amazed by the sheer number and fervor of Ju Jingyi's fans, surprised that despite having no dramas aired for nearly 600 days since April 2024, her popularity has not waned—in fact, it even surpasses Zhao Lusi, who recently starred in the hit drama "Please Make Me Shine."
Additionally, Ju Jingyi had a contract dispute with her former agency "Star48 Media" last year, after which she set up her own studio and announced her departure. Recently, a court document on "Star48 Media" suing a magazine has circulated online. In it, Star48 Media claims unilateral extension of its management contract with Ju Jingyi until 2033, asserting exclusive rights to her name, likeness, image, and voice. They sued the magazine for collaborating with Ju Jingyi during the contract period, producing multiple cover and inside photos, as well as a large amount of promotional material for public sale, seeking 300,000 RMB (about 170,000 MYR) in damages and removal of the materials.
In response, Ju Jingyi's studio released a statement stressing that her management contract with Star48 Media had already ended in June 2024, and the agency has no right to interfere in her career. The studio said the contract clearly stipulated termination on June 18, 2024. However, due to Star48 Media's multiple breaches during their cooperation—including forging a so-called "Exclusive Artist Contract Supplement" and severely infringing on Ju Jingyi's legal rights—she finally sent a "termination letter" to Star48 Media on June 15, 2024, requesting immediate contract dissolution. Out of consideration for their years of cooperation, she did not make the advance termination public and merely announced the contract's expiration with no renewal. Unexpectedly, Star48 Media continued spreading misinformation, hindering her career, prompting them to entrust all disputes to lawyers. They further accused Star48 Media of forging her signature and authorization, even indiscriminately "harassing" partners, and asserted they would hold Star48 Media legally accountable for malicious legal actions.
