(Kuching – 13th) AirBorneo will become a regional airline, connecting Sarawak with Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bali, Hong Kong in phases, including the possibility of flying to Shenzhen, China.
Therefore, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that the airline owned by Sarawak is not only about connecting Sarawak with Sabah and Indonesian Kalimantan.
“We will expand this airline in phases according to demand. Importantly, our business model is different from other airlines. Since we are located on an island, AirBorneo will serve as a connecting bridge. We do not prioritize profits as long as we can match operational costs. We hope to attract tourists to Sarawak, where they will spend, hotels will be fully booked, vegetables and fish will sell out, which means the entire economic chain will benefit and will also create job opportunities.”
Abang Johari said this during his speech at the 2025 Year of the Snake New Year banquet jointly organized by Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak and Federation of Chinese Associations Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Division last night.
He added that AirBorneo will facilitate foreign tourists and businessmen visiting Sarawak.
He also informed our Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook, that AirBorneo will become a major gateway to Borneo and the ASEAN region.
“This will certainly benefit traders in Sarawak.”
