Recently, Tokyo DisneySea sparked heated debate due to an unexpected photo. Online, an image circulated showing a young woman unbuttoning her thin white shirt completely to reveal her underwear, while wearing Mickey ears and happily taking selfies within the park. This act drew a lot of criticism from netizens, many of whom believed such revealing attire was inappropriate for an amusement park, causing the related controversy to escalate.
Some netizens said, “What should parents with children do?”, “Is it really okay to dress like that at Disney?”, and “This is totally against the dress code.”
According to Japanese media reports, Tokyo DisneySea’s official website outlines several types of clothing that are not allowed in the park, including outfits that are provocative or could cause discomfort to others, tattoos with inappropriate language or images, attire that could confuse guests with park characters or staff, and clothing carrying commercial promotions. However, there are no explicit restrictions regarding the degree of exposed skin.
As for this incident, Oriental Land Company, the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, declined to discuss specifics of the case but stated that if a guest's attire is deemed potentially disturbing to other visitors or violates public order and morals, staff will give a warning, and if necessary, may ask the guest to leave. The park emphasized that staff visually check clothing at entry and urged visitors to understand and cooperate so everyone can enjoy the park's atmosphere with peace of mind.
According to information from the woman's personal social media, she graduated from university this March and started working at a major real estate company. Later, through a friend's introduction, she unexpectedly got the opportunity to shoot a photo book. As she has always been interested in performing arts, she decided to change careers. She revealed that she is currently working part-time in real estate while preparing for her new path and hopes for everyone's continued support.
In fact, this is not the first time a “dress code controversy” has erupted at a Japanese theme park. During the 2022 Halloween event, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka also faced debate when guests entered the park dressed in revealing outfits that resembled underwear. USJ later publicly stated that “it is regrettable for the park’s name to be spread in this manner,” and stressed that this type of costume is not acceptable in the park.
