(Miri, 27th) The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch held its 2025 Annual General Meeting and re-election on the 22nd of this month, with Ir. Meheron Selowara Joo re-elected as chairman.
The above-mentioned annual general meeting was held at the branch's premises and simultaneously via Microsoft Teams cloud video.
Chairman Ir. Meheron, in his invited speech, stated that 2024 is very special for the IEM Miri Branch as it celebrates its silver jubilee, marking its 25th anniversary. This year has been extraordinary for the branch, filled with significant milestones and impactful initiatives.
He said one of the main achievements of the Miri Branch was the successful organization of the second Borneo Infrastructure Symposium. This event brought together industry experts, government agencies, and professionals to discuss sustainable infrastructure development in Borneo. The symposium reinforced Miri Branch's role as a key stakeholder in shaping the engineering landscape of the region and promoting cross-sector collaboration.
He mentioned another major highlight was the 25th-anniversary dinner, which provided a platform to celebrate the achievements of the Miri Branch, recognize outstanding contributions, and strengthen connections among members, industry partners, and stakeholders. This event demonstrated the deep camaraderie within our engineering community.
Ir. Meheron stated that beyond these significant events, we have continuously been dedicated to serving the local community and supporting governmental bodies. Through various initiatives, we provide technical expertise, engage in community service projects, and take part in dialogues to tackle engineering challenges in Miri. The collaboration with local government on infrastructure improvement and disaster risk management further underscores our commitment to public welfare and professional responsibility.
