(B.S.B., 11th) The Quran Reciter (Qari) and Female Reciter (Qariah) from Brunei—Awang Ahmad Zulwaqar bin Haji Suhaili and Dayang Amal Nazirah binti Haji Asmat—participated in the 65th International Quran Recitation and Memorization Competition in Kuala Lumpur from August 2 to 9, achieving an impressive fifth place.
The two contestants returned to Brunei International Airport the day before yesterday, accompanied by Tajwid and Linguistic Art Instructor as well as head of the delegation Haji Abd Hafeiz bin Haji Nuh, Vocal and Melody Instructor Haji Ismail bin Haji Sulaiman, and female accompanying official Datin Hajah Umiyati binti Haji Mohammad Noor.
Welcoming them home were, among others, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (KHEU) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy & Religious Affairs) Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar, together with several senior officials from the ministry.
In the competition, Awang Ahmad Zulwaqar achieved a score of 89.51%, while Dayang Amal Nazirah received 85.25%.
As an expression of gratitude, Awang Ahmad Zulwaqar recited a prayer of safety and thanksgiving (Doa Selamat dan Kesyukuran) at the scene, expressing thanks to Allah for the safe journey and outstanding achievement in bringing honor to the country.
