Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Secretary for Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok on Sunday (August 23) led a cross-disciplinary delegation of about 40 people to visit Xinjiang, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, promoting Hong Kong’s unique advantages and strengths in professional services that connect both internally and externally.
According to Sing Tao Headline, the delegation members span multiple professional fields including Hong Kong’s law and dispute resolution, finance, and accounting, and include Belt and Road Commissioner Nicholas Ho, as well as industry representatives from the Trade Development Council and InvestHK. The aim is to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong and the three destinations in legal and professional service sectors.
The Department of Justice stated that Paul Lam and the delegation’s first stop on Monday (24th) will be Urumqi, Xinjiang, where they will attend the opening ceremony of the “Hong Kong Common Law and Dispute Resolution Practice Training” organized by the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption.
During the visit, Paul Lam will meet with local officials to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two places at the legal level.
After concluding the Xinjiang leg, the delegation will visit Almaty, Kazakhstan from Tuesday (25th) to Wednesday (26th) to attend the “Collaborative Win-Win” seminar co-organized by the Department of Justice and the Trade Development Council, and will have in-depth exchanges with representatives from Kazakhstan’s legal and business sectors.
Afterward, the delegation will proceed to Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan. Besides visiting local government officials, the delegation will also conduct on-site inspections to learn about the latest developments in the local legal services industry.
Paul Lam will return to Hong Kong at the end of his visit on August 30. During his absence, Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan will act as Secretary for Justice.
