Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated to the media on the 23rd that Russia is issuing a security warning to the US regarding the situation around Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant: Attacks on nuclear facilities have the potential for extreme danger and would lead to irreparable consequences.
Peskov said that the Bushehr nuclear power plant is a nuclear facility supervised by the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Russia is maintaining close dialogue with the IAEA on related issues.
He pointed out that only political and diplomatic means can effectively ease the catastrophic tensions in the Middle East.
On the 17th, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran issued a statement saying that at about 7 p.m. local time that day, a hostile projectile hit the premises of the Bushehr nuclear plant in southern Iran, but did not cause any economic or technical damage to the facility, nor any casualties.
Hoping for a Prompt and Peaceful Resolution to the Iran Situation
Peskov stated that Russia is closely following numerous statements on whether the US and Iran will negotiate, and hopes the Iran situation will be resolved peacefully as soon as possible.
He noted that Russia has observed contradictions among statements from various parties regarding US-Iran talks and will continue to monitor developments in the situation.
