In response to Taiwan President Lai Ching-te's call for both the ruling and opposition parties to 'rest and recuperate' following the defeat of the 'Great Recall,' both the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) have issued harsh criticism, claiming that the Lai administration not only failed to show any reflection, but has become increasingly arrogant and autocratic, further intensifying divisions within the island's society.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, along with a number of KMT lawmakers, attended the 'Great Recall, Great Defeat, Thanksgiving Festival' event held at the legislative council on Sunday.
Chiang Wan-an stated that a year has passed since the failure of the 'Great Recall,' yet the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have not conducted any self-examination. Instead of humbly facing public opinion, the administration has become even more excessive, continually tearing society apart. He recalled that a year ago, the DPP government, having 'overturned the table after losing the election,' launched the unprecedented, indiscriminate 'Great Recall,' claiming it was due to the blue and white parties in the legislature cutting the budget, resulting in the inability to hire sign language interpreters and a shortage of toilet paper in the Control Yuan. However, after July 26, both sign language interpreters and toilet paper were provided, and a universal cash payout of NT$10,000 (about RM1,300) was also distributed. Chiang Wan-an harshly criticized this as typical DPP behavior—deceiving the public and conducting political persecution.
