On the 20th, Taiwan's Central Election Commission announced the approval of recall cases for 24 Kuomintang (KMT) legislators. That evening, the five legislators from the New Taipei City constituencies issued a joint statement, emphasizing they will confront the challenge head-on. The "New Taipei Team" must not lose even a single member; they will fight side by side with Mayor Hou You-yi to build their hometown and safeguard democracy.
According to the announcement, recall cases against 24 Kuomintang legislators and Hsinchu Mayor Ann Kao have been approved, with voting to take place on July 26.
The KMT legislators in New Taipei City targeted by the recall are Chang Chih-lun, Liao Hsien-hsiang, Lin Te-fu, Hung Meng-kai, and Yeh Yuan-chih.
The statement questioned that, as revealed by DPP Legislative Yuan caucus convener Ker Chien-ming, the "recall campaign" has been in the works for over a year, orchestrated by the entire ruling party machinery and state resources for one goal: to ensure only green (DPP) voices are left in Taiwan, creating one-party dominance and green-only supremacy. However, true believers in democracy will firmly say three words: 'I disagree.'
The statement continued: Over the past year, the government with the largest budget in history, "what has it done? Did it make people feel safer, or even more anxious?" During this time, the DPP has only focused on recalls. To keep their hold on power, they shift blame to the opposition; to attack their opponents, they recklessly label them as 'CCP sympathizers.' Yet on issues the people really care about—energy, prices, scams, law and order, the death penalty—"which one has been seriously addressed?"
The statement criticized that the DPP's recalls only further divide society and intensify emotions. Many locals remain silent, but silence does not mean consent. Now, as we enter the crucial third phase, if you don't vote or take a stand, you'll allow dirty tricks to prevail and bad actors to succeed. The achievements made for New Taipei might even be used as bargaining chips for DPP's 2026 campaign. The New Taipei Team must not lose a single member; we will fight side by side with Mayor Hou You-yi to build our hometown and defend democracy.
According to the announcement, the legislators whose recall cases have been approved include Fu Kun-chi, Huang Chien-pin, Cheng Cheng-chieh, Lin Pei-hsiang, Wan Mei-ling, Lu Ming-che, Tu Chuan-chi, Niu Hsu-ting, Liao Hsien-hsiang, Lo Ting-wei, Huang Chien-hao, Liao Wei-hsiang, Chiu Jo-hua, Lu Yu-ling, Ting Hsueh-chung, Yeh Yuan-chih, Wang Hung-wei, Lee Yen-hsiu, Hsu Chiao-hsin, Lai Shih-pao, Lo Chih-chiang, Hung Meng-kai, Chang Chih-lun, and Lin Te-fu.
According to the "Public Officials Election and Recall Act," the third-stage recall vote must be held within 20 to 60 days after the recall motion is approved. For the recall to pass, the number of valid 'agree' votes must exceed 'disagree' votes and the 'agree' votes must also reach at least one-fourth of the total number of eligible voters in that constituency.
