Unable to Wake Male Passenger, Driver Calls Police — Turns Out He Was Just in a Deep Sleep, False Alarm

A foreign male passenger fell into such a deep sleep on a bus that other passengers, noticing he was slumped forward and unresponsive, tried to wake him. This led to the bus driver stopping the vehicle and calling for an ambulance. When emergency personnel arrived, the passenger woke up, and it was confirmed that he was only deeply asleep, not unconscious — a false alarm.

According to a report by “HK01,” a video circulating on social media recently showed a foreign male passenger dressed in a suit and wearing a Bluetooth earpiece. He sat in the lower cabin of a public bus, head down, holding the same posture from the moment he boarded, and did not react, causing concern among fellow passengers.

Other passengers attempted to rouse him, and the bus driver called out “Hello” and patted him on the arm. However, the male passenger still did not respond.

The driver then apologized to the passengers, saying, “Sorry everyone, it seems this passenger might be having an issue,” and proceeded to dial 999 to call the police.

Hong Kong police responded to “HK01”’s inquiry, confirming that on Wednesday (the 19th) at 11:12pm, they received a report from a Citybus route 619 driver, stating that a male passenger appeared to be unconscious as the bus traveled towards Kwun Tong from Lam Tin MTR station.

When emergency responders arrived, the foreign male regained consciousness. Upon confirmation that he was merely in a deep sleep, the case was reclassified from “person unconscious” to “misunderstanding,” and no one needed to be taken to the hospital.

Internet users discussed the incident, wondering how someone could sleep so soundly. Some also commented that the passenger did not “look unconscious,” while others stressed, “Being unconscious and being deceased are two different things, don’t confuse the two.”
