(Kuching, 7th) Muslim communities in member countries of the Regional Islamic Da'wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) need to embrace new economic transformations and technological advancements to enhance their economic strength.
Prime Minister of Sarawak and Chairman of RISEAP, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, stated that Muslim communities, particularly minority groups, must strive to improve their economic level, become pioneers in building a solid foundation, and earn respect within the wider community.
“In our daily lives, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has greatly simplified workflows, optimized decision-making and products, tapped into potential talents, and reduced human errors. Therefore, we need to accept the fact that AI technology brings significant transformation to various aspects of our lives.”
Abang Johari made these remarks while attending the opening ceremony of the 20th RISEAP Conference held in Cambodia.
Abang Johari added that RISEAP focuses on six core areas, with the primary mission being the application of fundamental Islamic principles.
“We believe that every Muslim must uphold the constitution of the country they reside in and respect its culture and religion. I am pleased to know that the Muslims in Cambodia have a deep love for Cambodia and integrate with Buddhist and other communities.”
He said that Muslim communities in the RISEAP region need to firmly oppose extremism and stand shoulder to shoulder with other communities in facing extremism together.
“By promoting interfaith understanding and closely cooperating with other religious groups, member countries and RISEAP can demonstrate how Islam is inclusive and fosters peace and harmony in a multi-faith society.”
Meanwhile, the 20th RISEAP Conference attracted representatives from Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Samoa, New Caledonia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia.
