(Miri, 22nd) Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that Miri's various blood donation activities have always received enthusiastic responses, successfully collecting over 9,000 pints of blood last year, fully demonstrating the spirit of love and unity in society. He is gratified by this and hopes that the citizens of Miri will continue to support blood donation activities to provide a stable supply of blood for the medical system.
He made these remarks at a blood donation event hosted by the Lions Club of Miri Mandarin this morning, urging the public to actively donate blood to give patients in need a chance at life.
Dato Sri Lee expressed his gratitude to the Lions Club for its philanthropic efforts during his speech at the event, calling on more social groups, businesses, and citizens to support the blood donation campaign.
This blood donation event took place from 10 AM to 2 PM today at the Miri Red Crescent Society Training Center and attracted many enthusiastic participants.
Dato Sri Lee stated that blood is the fountain of life, and every bag of blood could save a life, whether for a patient in urgent need of transfusion, a mother, or an accident victim; they all rely on a stable blood supply.
“We often hear about urgent blood stock shortages, especially during Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya period when our Muslim friends give blood less frequently, posing greater challenges to the blood bank. Therefore, this blood donation activity is significant as it contributes to society.”
He emphasized that donating blood not only does not affect health but can promote metabolism, showcase humanity's brilliance, and inject warmth and hope into society.
He hopes more citizens will actively respond and lend a hand during times of tight blood bank supply to ensure the smooth operation of the medical system, benefiting more patients.
Previously, during his speech, the president of Lions Club of Miri Mandarin Simon Yong, indicated that this blood donation event was hosted by the club in collaboration with the Leo club of Riam Middle School, showcasing the younger generation's enthusiasm and sense of responsibility in engaging in public welfare.
“Seeing the young Leo Club members participating enthusiastically deeply moved us. Their passion and dedication give us hope for the future.”
He stated that the smooth operation of the event was thanks to the strong support of multiple partners. The Sarawak Furniture Association, as a co-organizer, actively promoted social welfare and supported this meaningful event. Additionally, KPJ Miri Specialist Hospital provided medical support, and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Miri branch generously provided the venue and aided in the smooth conduct of the event.
“Blood donation is one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of kindness, with every bag of blood potentially saving a life.”
He thanked all the kind-hearted individuals and volunteers who came to donate blood and hoped that everyone would continue to join hands to bring more warmth and hope to society. He also stated that the club will continue to organize similar public welfare activities to encourage more people to participate in social services and help those in need.
