(Indonesia, 22nd) Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi revealed that communication has taken place regarding the possibility of President Prabowo meeting US President Trump during his visit to New York, USA.
However, Foreign Minister Retno stated that, at present, there is no confirmed schedule for the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump.
Last Friday (19/9) evening, while accompanying President Prabowo’s delegation on a foreign visit at Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Foreign Minister Retno told the media, “We have not yet received the schedule.”
It is understood that President Prabowo departed from Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Friday night, heading first to Osaka, Japan, and then onward to the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
When asked about the possibility of a Prabowo-Trump meeting, Foreign Minister Retno admitted that, although communication has taken place to ensure the meeting happens smoothly, the Indonesian side has not yet received a specific schedule.
“Indeed, communication has been carried out,” she said.
According to the plan, President Prabowo will deliver a speech in the General Debate session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 23, 2025, immediately following the Presidents of Brazil and the United States, as the third speaker.
President Prabowo’s speech at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly’s General Debate is of great significance. This is not only a ceremonial event, but also an important opportunity for Indonesia to reaffirm its commitment to peace, enhance global cooperation, and defend national interests amid complex geopolitical dynamics on the international stage.
President Prabowo will address the global leaders, and as one of the early speakers on the agenda, his speech occupies a strategically important position.
This order of speeches is significant, as Brazil traditionally speaks first, followed by the host nation, the United States. This means President Prabowo’s speech will be among the first heard globally.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that President Prabowo’s address will cover key topics such as Palestine. The UN General Assembly podium is also an excellent platform for Prabowo to expound on his “Eight Visions” plans and ideas.
In his speech, Prabowo will also promote reforms to the multilateral system and emphasize the importance of Global South countries, guided by the spirit of Bandung.
In addition to his speech at the UN General Assembly, President Prabowo’s agenda will include bilateral meetings with several heads of state. These meetings will serve as an important platform to strengthen Indonesia’s relations with various strategic partners.
For the people of Indonesia, President Prabowo’s appearance on the stage of the United Nations General Assembly symbolizes the Red and White flag’s active participation on the global stage.
In the face of increasingly complex global challenges—ranging from peace issues, climate change, to economic crises—Indonesia’s voice in international forums is pushing for the establishment of a more just, peaceful, and inclusive world order.
