Zelensky: Possibility of Peace Talks with Russia to be Discussed by Ukraine-US Teams This Weekend

Published at Aug 26, 2025 04:35 pm
Ukrainian President Zelensky said on the 25th that teams from Ukraine and the United States will hold talks this weekend to discuss the possibility of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

He made this statement at a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Støre.

He said he would meet with Kelly C. Degnan, the U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine Affairs, who is visiting Ukraine.

He pointed out that the Ukrainian team is in close contact with the United States and others. After a basic framework of security guarantees for Ukraine is established, the Ukrainian side will rely on the U.S. to learn whether the Russian side is prepared to hold a meeting.

At the press conference, Zelensky also thanked Norway for its support to Ukraine, and noted that Norway has joined a plan to purchase weapons from the United States. Ukraine hopes to receive at least 1 billion US dollars (about 4.213 billion ringgit) of support from this plan each month.

Støre said at the press conference that Norway and Germany have provided Ukraine with two sets of Patriot air defense systems and supporting missiles to help Ukraine cope with drone and missile attacks.

Støre will also propose to the Norwegian parliament to provide 8.5 billion US dollars in aid to Ukraine next year.
