A video recently went viral online showing a blind girl in China being knocked down by an electric bicycle while walking on a tactile paving (designed for the visually impaired) in Beijing, and then being scolded by the cyclist. The Beijing police later issued a notice stating that the video was staged and fake, and the man and woman involved in the incident have been subjected to criminal compulsory measures according to law.

According to the introduction, a short video blogger called “Hugging Blind Rabbit” (who claims to have first-degree visual impairment) published the video last Friday (May 8), showing her walking on the tactile paving during a trip to Beijing, being knocked down by an electric bicycle, resulting in a hand injury and her white cane falling to the ground.

The video shows that after the incident, the man on the bike did not apologize, but instead questioned her, saying, “Didn't you see the road?” The girl replied, “I’m walking on the tactile paving,” to which he retorted, “What tactile paving?” He then rode away from the scene.

The video quickly sparked heated debate. The Beijing Traffic Police’s Douyin account responded in the comments section: “Hello, we are aware of the situation you reported. Please provide your contact information and the original video to us via private message; we will verify the situation and handle it according to law as soon as possible.”

The girl later replied, “Thank you, everyone, for your concern. I’ve already received an apology from the person involved last night, and relevant authorities have also contacted me.”
The official WeChat account “Capital Net Police” under the Beijing Public Security Bureau wrote on Saturday (May 16) that, in order to purify the online environment, Beijing police have focused on prominent online issues that the public is strongly concerned about, continuously increasing the crackdown and rectification efforts, and actively fostering a clean online space, citing three typical cases.

Case One showed that a 26-year-old man surnamed Liu and a 24-year-old woman surnamed Jiang, seeking to gain followers, attract attention, and profit, staged the fake scene of “A blind person walking on tactile paving being hit and scolded by an e-bike rider” beside a road in Chaoyang District, and posted the content via a short video platform, misleading large numbers of netizens and causing a negative impact. According to the notification, the two have been subjected to criminal compulsory measures by the public security authorities.

Currently, the “Hugging Blind Rabbit” account has been banned from being followed.
