(Miri, 27th) In response to the recent incident of a new soldier's sudden death in a military camp in Miri, Sarawak DAP Secretary Alan Ling expressed that the physical violence within the military camp is similar to school bullying, if not worse, which is shocking and infuriating.
He called for those involved in the case to receive the harshest punishment, including compulsory discharge and a permanent ban from re-enlistment. The government and law enforcement agencies must make every effort to ensure justice is served.
He emphasized that soldiers should be highly disciplined members of the forces, representing the face of the nation. However, the exposure of such violent incidents not only shames the implicated soldiers but also affects the image of other disciplined forces, even threatening the nation's prestige.
He highly commended Miri Police Chief Alexson Naga for his swift action and response. Alexson Naga quickly initiated an investigation, bringing necessary confidence and assurance to the public and the family of the deceased.
Alan Ling stated that although the incident is heartbreaking, he believes that the capable government will thoroughly review and improve the flaws within the military system to ensure that similar incidents do not recur, seeking justice for the deceased and upholding the dignity of social justice and the rule of law.
He will continue to monitor the progress of this case to ensure that future military management and system construction can provide a safe, healthy, and just training and living environment for every soldier. Every soldier serving the nation should be given due respect and protection.
