A shooting occurred in a high-rise office building in downtown Manhattan, New York City on the 28th local time. Five people, including the gunman, have died and multiple others were injured.
The 27-year-old gunman, Tamura, entered the building at 345 Park Avenue carrying an M-4 rifle. Around 6:30 pm Eastern Time, he began shooting, then took the elevator to the 33rd floor of the building, where he shot and killed himself.
The gunman was from Las Vegas, and his motive remains unclear. A preliminary investigation found no significant criminal record, but he did have a history of mental health issues.
New York Police Commissioner Tisch said: "The scene has been secured, and the sole gunman has been neutralized."
According to reports, at least five people, including the gunman and a police officer, were killed and six others injured in the shooting.
The 44-story 345 Park Avenue building is home to the headquarters of Blackstone Group and the National Football League, as well as offices of well-known firms such as KPMG and Bank of America.
