An elderly woman in Taiwan caused a stir after forcing a young man to give up his seat on the Taipei MRT and was kicked in response. The woman, surnamed Zeng, turned out to be wanted by police for theft.
According to Taiwan's TVBS News, Mrs. Zeng appeared in a convenience store on Yanping North Road Section 2 this morning (the 1st), causing a disturbance and leading to a police report. When police arrived, they found that the troublemaker was the very same main character from the MRT news, and further discovered she had been sentenced for theft and was wanted.
Police stated that at around 9 a.m. this morning, they received a report about a dispute in a Section 2 Yanping North Road convenience store. Upon arrival, they found that the woman causing trouble was Ms. Zeng, the main figure from the MRT incident. After checking her ID, they discovered she had been sentenced to 55 days for multiple theft cases but had never reported for execution of her sentence. A warrant for her arrest had been issued on September 30. She was immediately taken into custody.
When Mrs. Zeng was arrested, she was extremely agitated, insisting that the police had the wrong person and continuously shouting, “This is fake,” and “It’s not me.” She was escorted to the police car and sent to the Datong Police Precinct in Taipei for further questioning.
On September 29, a white-haired elderly woman was riding the Taipei MRT and saw a young person sitting in a priority seat. She forced the young person to give up the seat and even swung her bag at him. The young man was not intimidated. He first handed his belongings to a nearby passenger for safekeeping, then stood up and kicked the elderly woman across to the opposite seat. Once footage of the incident was released on the 30th, it quickly sparked heated discussions.
