(Indonesia, 23rd) Wildfires have spread across parts of Indonesia’s Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Java islands, and President Prabowo has vowed to hold companies accountable for using burning methods to clear land.
According to a report by Antara News Agency, Prabowo yesterday (23rd) inspected local firefighting operations in West Kalimantan, then proceeded to Palangkaraya, the capital of Central Kalimantan Province, to chair a meeting on wildfire response. After the meeting, he warned companies that if they are involved in environmental violations, they will face severe legal consequences.
State Secretary Prasetyo, who accompanied Prabowo at the meeting, said that four companies in West Kalimantan are under investigation for suspected involvement in forest and land fires. He stated that the government will decide what legal actions to take against the offending companies based on the investigation results, including possibly revoking their operating licenses.

Prabowo also ordered the deployment of four more helicopters to carry out aerial water-bombing firefighting missions throughout Central Kalimantan.
