(Kuching, 31st) The President of the Sarawak Muay Thai Association, Zuma A, hopes that the Sarawak government will consider including the Muay Thai event in next year's Borneo Games.

He stated that this sport is very popular in Borneo, such as in Pontianak, Brunei, the Federal Territory of Labuan, and Sabah, where they always support Muay Thai events organized in Sarawak.

“In every Sarawak Muay Thai competition, participants from Sabah, Labuan, West Kalimantan, and Brunei always participate in our events.”

Therefore, he hopes the government will seriously consider including Muay Thai in the Borneo Games in the future.

Zuma A, during a press interview at the 2024 Eden Idol Karaoke Competition press conference, hopes that the Sarawak government, especially the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, will support the development of Muay Thai in Sarawak.

“According to records, at a recent Sarawak assembly meeting, the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim, revealed that the Borneo Games will be relaunched next year, but the dates and locations are yet to be confirmed.”

He disclosed that for NGOs like the Sarawak Muay Thai Association, improving their economy is quite challenging, especially in the current economic climate.

He sincerely hopes that the government can help and support our activities, and hopes to promote Muay Thai and send participants abroad for training, as this strategy has proven effective.

When discussing preparations for the 2026 Sukma Games, Zuma A stated that the preparations have already begun, and the association will send athletes to Thailand for intensive training.

He mentioned that to ensure the Muay Thai championship at the 2024 Sukma Games can be defended, training needs to start immediately and requires support from all parties, particularly the Sarawak government.
