(Manila, 27th) Philippine President Marcos will arrange a new government position for former National Police Chief Nicolas Torre III, the Presidential Palace confirmed today.
Deputy Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office and Palace Press Officer Castro stated at a press conference that the specific position has not yet been announced, and details will only be disclosed after Torre confirms.
She said: “At present, details cannot be revealed, but it can be confirmed that a position is indeed under discussion.”
Torre was suddenly relieved of his post due to 'irreconcilable differences' with the National Police Commission.
Castro pointed out that Interior and Local Government Secretary Remulla has explained that there were indeed some unresolved differences, and ultimately, the president’s decision was respected.
Responding to speculation about a chaotic transition, she said Torre had accepted the president’s decision: “The two have already communicated, General Torre understands what has happened and respects the president’s judgment.”
Torre assumed command of the police force in June this year and had led several high-profile operations, including arrest actions against former president Duterte and 'Kingdom of Jesus Christ' leader Quiboloy.
As to public speculation about a possible cabinet post, Castro did not confirm and only stated: “Details will be announced only once everything is finalized and has Torre’s consent.”
