(Stone Lion Gate, 30th) The Stone Lion Gate District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Team launched a 'Special Anti-Drug Operation' (Op Tapis Khas) yesterday, carrying out raids in several villages within the district. A total of eight men were arrested, and urine tests confirmed that they tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Stone Lion Gate District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahman, stated in a press release that the operation began at around 2 p.m. yesterday. Law enforcement officers conducted inspections at Kampung Sibuluh, Kampung Daun Singai, Kampung Bobak Singai, Kampung Barieng Singai, as well as at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Team Office of the Stone Lion Gate Police District.
He said that during the operation, two men aged 29 and 30 were arrested on suspicion of possessing 0.39 grams of methamphetamine (syabu), with an estimated street value of about RM 40.
'Police are investigating the case under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the offense of possessing dangerous drugs.'
He stated that the other six men were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after preliminary urine screening results showed they tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
He said that all those arrested were aged between 20 and 43 years old, with occupations including contract workers, car mechanics, and unemployed individuals.
'Preliminary investigations found that some suspects had prior drug-related records, while the others had no criminal record.'
'According to the suspects’ initial statements, they are believed to have consumed syabu within three days before their arrest, up until the day of the operation.'
He said all suspects are currently detained at the Stone Lion Gate Police Station lockup to assist in investigations, and for the two suspects accused of drug possession, police will apply for a remand extension to facilitate further investigation.
