(Taiwan, 25th) Former Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen met with current leader Lai Ching-te on Sunday, stating that Taiwan faces many internal and external challenges. She especially cheered on and encouraged Lai Ching-te and hoped the public would continue to support Lai and the governing team.
On Sunday (August 24), Tsai Ing-wen posted on Facebook that she met with Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim at Lai's official residence that afternoon.
Tsai noted that Taiwan faces many internal and external challenges. She especially cheered on and encouraged Lai Ching-te, saying, "In these difficult times, we need to put in even more effort."
Tsai further stated that the three of them discussed and exchanged many opinions regarding Taiwan's internal and external circumstances and developments.
Tsai concluded in her post by saying that the more difficult it is for Taiwan, the more unity is needed. For Taiwan to continue progressing steadily, "I hope everyone continues to support Leader Lai, Vice Leader Hsiao, and the governing team, so that we can work together for our beloved Taiwan."
Lai Ching-te also posted about the three-person meeting on Facebook, noting that the recall and referendum have ended and that they unanimously believe that the value of democracy lies in allowing different voices to be heard and building more consensus, which in turn can become the driving force for the country's continued progress.
Lai said that in the face of the various upcoming challenges, he will turn the voice of the people into forward momentum, working hand in hand with everyone, step by step, to lead Taiwan towards a better future.
After the complete defeat on July 26, Taiwan's green camp launched a second round of recalls against seven opposition Kuomintang legislators, but was again heavily defeated in last Saturday's (August 23) vote by a wide margin. This means all recall cases against 31 Kuomintang legislators and Hsinchu Mayor Ann Kao have failed, and the DPP government will continue to face a Legislative Yuan where the opposition holds a majority.
