Military Attachés from Multiple Countries Inspect Border Situation in Cambodia; Cambodia Protests Thailand's Illegal Capture of 20 Cambodian Soldiers

Military attachés from 13 countries inspected the situation regarding the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia on the 30th at the Ansae border checkpoint in Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province.

The Ansae checkpoint borders Thailand's Ubon Ratchathani Province. On site, the military attachés heard a briefing from Chan Sophidra, Commander of the Preah Vihear Military Operations Area.

Chan Sophidra said that the Cambodian military had strictly abided by the ceasefire agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries.

He pointed out that although the ceasefire agreement had officially taken effect, Thailand illegally captured 20 Cambodian soldiers on the morning of the 29th, one of whom managed to escape.

Nevertheless, Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded on the 30th, stating that on the morning of the 29th, Cambodian soldiers invaded Thai territory and launched an armed attack, forcing the Thai military to exercise its right to self-defense and safeguard territorial integrity. Some Cambodian soldiers surrendered after being wounded and were subsequently detained by the Thai side.

Since the 24th, Cambodia and Thailand have clashed in border areas. With the mediation of Malaysia, the rotating chair of ASEAN, Cambodia and Thailand held talks in Putrajaya on the 28th and agreed to an "immediate and unconditional" ceasefire starting at midnight that day, thus ending days of ongoing border conflicts between the two countries.
