(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and OSCO Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 16 at the university campus, joining forces to strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration and jointly promote development in education, research, and innovation.
The signing ceremony was represented by UBD Vice Chancellor Hazri and OSCO Private Limited Project Manager Jimmy Chan, while the Director of UBD’s Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), Associate Professor Jose Hernandez Santos, and OSCO’s Legal Officer Siti Nurhakimah were also present as witnesses.
According to the contents of the agreement, both parties will collaborate in multiple key areas, including joint research. UBD’s research expertise will be combined with OSCO’s experience in engineering and infrastructure to conduct joint projects, seminars, field visits, and publication initiatives covering solar technology, renewable energy systems, sustainable construction, and energy-efficient design.
For industrial collaboration, UBD students and staff will have the opportunity to gain in-depth exposure to OSCO’s actual operations in engineering, construction, and renewable energy applications through field visits, training, and applied research, thereby enhancing the integration of theory and practice.
Internship and apprenticeship programs: the agreement also includes industrial internship and discovery year opportunities for UBD students, allowing them to learn civil engineering, electrical engineering, and solar system installation onsite at OSCO projects, thus improving their technical and professional capabilities.
Other cooperation areas: both parties also plan to deepen cooperation in fields such as capacity building in renewable energy technology, green infrastructure, smart technology integration, and environmental sustainability. UBD’s C3L will develop micro-credential and professional certification courses to further promote lifelong learning and community education, increasing public awareness of sustainable development.
This strategic partnership builds a platform for knowledge sharing, skills enhancement, and industrial collaboration, benefiting both academia and industry, and it aligns with Brunei’s national direction of promoting human capital development and green economic innovation.
