Vice President Sara's Impeachment Case Sent Back to House by Philippine Senate

(Philippines, 11th) The Philippine Senate voted to return the impeachment case against Vice President Sara to the House of Representatives to clarify whether the impeachment complies with the constitution.
According to Reuters, on Tuesday (June 10), Philippine senators held a series of debates, including discussing a motion from the Duterte camp to dismiss the impeachment case, after which they voted to return the case to the House of Representatives.
Shortly after the Senate began deliberating the impeachment case on Tuesday, the majority of senators approved a motion by 18 votes to five to send the impeachment case back to the House of Representatives to confirm that the case does not violate the constitution and that the next Congress is "willing and ready" to advance the impeachment case.
Sara is the daughter of former President Duterte. She is facing seven charges, including violations of the constitution, corruption and bribery, and scheming to murder President Marcos Jr. The House of Representatives passed Sara's impeachment case on February 5th and submitted it to the Senate for review on the same day. Sara has denied these charges.
The Philippine constitution stipulates that the Senate has the final decision-making power over the impeachment cases of the president and vice president. To pass the impeachment case, it requires the support of two-thirds of the 24 senators, or 16 votes. If the impeachment is passed, Sara will be removed from the position of Vice President and disqualified from holding public office in the future.
