‘The Queen of News 2’ Sweeps Grand Slam: Bosco Wong & Charmaine Sheh Crowned Double King & Queen, Eric Tsang Steps Down After 5 Attempts

TVB's '2025 TVB Anniversary Awards' took place on the evening of the 4th in Macau. This year saw fierce competition, with Bosco Wong (Bosco) and Charmaine Sheh (Ah Sheh) both making a 'double strike,' winning Best Actor/Actress and Greater Bay Area's Most Popular Actor/Actress. 'The Queen of News 2' clinched Best Drama and took home a total of 9 major awards, emerging as the night's biggest winner. Towards the end of the ceremony, it was announced that Eric Tsang received the TVB Honorary Legend Award. He then described himself as 'having run out of inspiration, stepping down,' announcing his resignation as TVB's General Manager.

The awards ceremony attracted nearly a hundred artists including Moses Chan, Kenneth Ma, Joel Chan, Charmaine Sheh, Regina Ho, and Ali Lee, all of whom dressed up for the event. A large group of fans gathered outside the venue to cheer on their idols. On the red carpet, Joel Chan—the hot favorite for Best Actor—displayed hand-drawn support cards from his children as 'good luck charms,' but ultimately lost to 'The Queen of News 2's Bosco.

After being crowned double best actor, Bosco joked during the press interview that as soon as he was awarded the Greater Bay Area Best Actor, he began to expect the worst: 'I thought it’s over—but then I saw Third Brother (Michael Miu) presenting the award, which gave me a bit of hope. I’m very happy to receive the award from him.' When asked how he plans to celebrate, he responded that he has to fly to Nanjing, China for business the next day, but intends to go out for a meal with friends afterward and also treat Shaw Brothers colleagues as a token of gratitude. 'I’ll treat the cast and crew of 'The Queen of News 2' to a milk banquet, something simple to celebrate.' He also joked that he has to thank his mom for spending money diligently, which motivates him to work harder to earn more.

Charmaine Sheh defeated fierce competitor Jessica Hsuan to win Best Actress for a record fourth time. When the result was announced, the audience erupted in cheers as Sheh shed tears of joy on stage. In her acceptance interview about her fourth win, she said, 'It feels like I’m dreaming. I’m really grateful for the fans’ support; without them, there would be no 'The Queen of News 2.' I’m also thankful for my own years of hard work. I’ll continue striving to deliver more great works, hoping to bring positive energy to others. (Will there be a 'The Queen of News 3'?) Let’s see the script first; no need to rush. We should handle it carefully, and not make it so frequently that it loses quality. I hope to preserve these beautiful memories.'

Towards the end of the program, TVB executive chairman Thomas Hui appeared on stage, congratulating all winners, and said this year saw the special addition of the TVB Honorary Legend Award, which went to General Manager Eric Tsang in recognition of his decades of outstanding contribution to TVB and even the Hong Kong entertainment industry, bringing countless joy to the audience and nurturing countless talents—describing him as 'always the most important member of TVB.' At this point, Alan Tam made a surprise appearance to present the award. Eric Tsang then immediately announced his resignation as General Manager. Backstage, he revealed that he had applied to resign five times, but the company persuaded him to stay each time. He denied leaving due to health reasons, and candidly said he identifies more as a film person and prefers a freer lifestyle.

In January 2021, at the strong invitation of Thomas Hui, Eric Tsang returned to TVB to serve as Deputy General Manager (Variety Shows, Music Production, and Content). Under his leadership, TVB successfully resolved the HKRIA copyright dispute and, thanks to his outstanding performance, he was promoted to General Manager (Programme Content Operations) in September 2021, taking full responsibility for TVB’s main content operations, including variety shows, co-produced dramas, music production, programme acquisition and planning. Throughout his four years as general manager, he earned widespread recognition.
