The highly anticipated sci-fi blockbuster of the year, Avatar: Fire and Ash (also known as Avatar 3), directed by Hollywood’s James Cameron, was earlier postponed in Hong Kong due to the Tai Po fire incident. Now, following a recent anti-Semitic terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney that resulted in multiple casualties, the planned premiere and series of promotional activities for the film in Sydney on the 15th have also been canceled.

On the 15th, the film company issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the Sydney promotional events: “Out of deep condolences for the victims of the Bondi Beach shooting, the premiere event scheduled for today in Sydney for Avatar 3 has been canceled. Our thoughts are with the community, the victims, their families, and friends.” It was reported that James Cameron and lead actor Sam Worthington were originally set to attend the local promotional events together.

Additionally, even before its release, there is already good news for Avatar 3. According to the latest issue of the financial magazine Forbes, James Cameron’s net worth has surpassed 1.1 billion USD (about 4.5 billion MYR), officially making him a “billion-dollar director,” ranking alongside renowned filmmakers George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Peter Jackson. Forbes further points out that, based on Avatar 3’s projected box office performance, Cameron is expected to earn at least an additional 200 million USD (about 810 million MYR) in revenue.
