(Bintulu, June 10) — A traffic accident involving a lorry and a car occurred this morning at the junction near the Sarawak Water Supply Company on the Miri-Bintulu Coastal Highway. A car driver was trapped inside the vehicle, but fortunately was successfully rescued by firefighters and handed over to medical staff for hospital treatment.
The Samalaju Fire and Rescue Department in Sarawak received the report at 7:34 a.m. and immediately dispatched one fire and rescue truck (FRT) and four firefighters to the scene to carry out rescue actions.
Upon arriving at the scene at 7:43 a.m., the rescue team found that a green Nissan lorry carrying 20 tons of oil palm fruit had collided with a gray Perodua Bezza.
The accident caused the Bezza driver to become trapped in the driver’s seat, unable to free himself.
Incident commander Mohamad Shahrun immediately instructed his team to adopt the "SAVER" rescue concept and used hydraulic spreaders to pry open the deformed vehicle body and create rescue space.
After about 13 minutes of rescue efforts, firefighters successfully extricated the trapped driver and handed him over to Ministry of Health medical personnel for further treatment.
After confirming the scene was safe, the rescue operation concluded at 8:11 a.m. The cause of the accident is still under further investigation by the relevant authorities.
