(Miri, 16th) Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin State Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the Sarawak government has allocated 45 million ringgit, including consultancy fees, to advance a comprehensive flood mitigation plan aimed at solving the longstanding flooding issues in Desa Senadin and Kampung Senadin Jaya.
The plan, led by him, aims to provide a long-term and effective flood control solution for the area. Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin told the media today that the government has appointed a consultancy firm to conduct a comprehensive watershed study to plan an appropriate drainage system that will effectively reduce flood risk.
“This study will provide vital basis for the development of the drainage system to ensure that the new system can effectively reduce potential flood threats.”
He said that currently, the appointed consultancy firm has completed most of the research work and is expected to submit the final report within two months. Once the report is approved, the next step will be the detailed design phase and application for approval from the Sarawak Planning Authority.
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin added, “We have had multiple discussions with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, including a meeting with representatives from their headquarters in Kuching last Friday. The consultancy firm also shared their proposals, and I have provided some key insights to ensure that the plan can comprehensively address the main issues.”
According to the project timeline, the design phase and related approval procedures are expected to be completed by the end of this year, after which it will proceed to the open tender process to prepare for the formal commencement of the project.
