(Jakarta, 9th) An explosion occurred at a school in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, at noon on November 7. Authorities stated on the 8th that they are investigating a suspected student, and the incident has resulted in nearly one hundred injuries.
According to AFP, the explosion happened inside a mosque at a school in northern Jakarta, where people were gathering for prayers. On the 7th, police announced 54 people were injured, and on the following day confirmed 96 people were injured.
National Police Chief Listyo said on November 8 that investigators have collected multiple pieces of evidence. “There is text at the scene and powder that may have triggered the explosion.”
Authorities have now identified a suspect, who is a student injured in the explosion, but Listyo did not rule out the possibility of others being involved.
He added that investigators are looking into the suspect's family situation and social media accounts.
He said at least another 14 injured persons are still hospitalized, two of whom are in intensive care.
A spokesperson for the counter-terrorism police told AFP that investigators have searched the suspect's residence and the motive for the incident is still under investigation.
