(Bandar Seri Begawan, 12th) Brunei’s largest solar photovoltaic power plant—the 30MW Belimbing Power Station—held its groundbreaking ceremony yesterday, marking an important step forward in the nation’s clean energy development.
This project is being developed by Seri Suria Power (B) Sdn Bhd, a joint venture comprising Serikandi Oilfield Services, government-linked Khazanah Satu, and Atlantic Blue under Malaysia’s Solarvest Holdings. The power station will be built on a rehabilitated 32.29-hectare landfill site and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026. With an annual output of over 64,000 megawatt-hours, it will be able to supply electricity to more than 15,500 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 41,000 tons each year.
Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, presided over the ceremony, attended by senior government officials, industry representatives, and partners. Seri Suria Power director, Dato Jumain, stated that this project is not only a construction project but also exemplifies Brunei’s commitment to sustainable development and energy diversification.
The power station aligns with Brunei’s goals for 2035—achieving at least 30% renewable energy in the energy mix—and its 2030 target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. Engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning will be handled by Serikandi Solarvest Sdn Bhd, adhering to the highest standards of safety and environmental protection.
In addition to providing clean energy, the project will create local job opportunities and serve as a practical learning center for solar technology—helping Brunei advance toward a low-carbon future.
