The Indonesian capital Jakarta has reported 6 suspected hantavirus cases, and the authorities have strengthened related prevention measures.

Jakarta Health Agency chief Ani stated on the 18th that there are currently 3 confirmed hantavirus infection cases in the capital, with another 6 suspected cases being monitored.

According to earlier reports by Indonesian officials, 4 people infected with hantavirus have recovered, with another patient still undergoing treatment.

Ani pointed out that the Indonesian Ministry of Health has issued an alert, and the Jakarta city government has distributed hantavirus prevention notifications to all medical institutions in the city.

She said: “We have also designated several regional public hospitals as sentinel hospitals to conduct more rigorous monitoring, and screen for potential cases in the community.”

She urged residents to maintain good hygiene habits, including washing hands with soap and running water, emphasizing that this is a key measure to prevent hantavirus.

The Jakarta Health Agency has also deployed rapid response teams to strengthen the early warning system to prevent a significant increase in infection cases.

Hantavirus is not a new disease in Indonesia, with relevant studies being conducted since 2015. From 2024 to 2026, authorities recorded 23 cases of hantavirus nationwide, with 3 deaths.

In addition, Indonesian health authorities have strengthened hantavirus screening measures at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to prevent infected individuals from entering via international flights.
