Starting February 19, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) will expand the measure of banning heavy vehicles during peak hours on specific highways around the Klang Valley to alleviate traffic in the concerned areas and city.

Highway Authority Director Datuk Shahzari said the involved highway routes include the North-South Expressway, New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), and the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE).

He stated in a press release that the ban was announced by the government on October 21 last year and is one of the initiatives of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Traffic Congestion (JKMKKJR).

“The ban involves heavy vehicles such as Class Two vehicles, which are two-axle six-wheel vehicles (excluding buses), and Class Three vehicles, which are vehicles with three axles and above (excluding buses).

“However, the ban does not apply to heavy vehicles responsible for cleaning, processing and transporting municipal waste, emergency and enforcement services, and highway maintenance works.”

The affected sections are the North-South Expressway from Sungai Buloh to Bukit Lanjan (KM456.0 to KM459.3 both directions), the NKVE from Shah Alam to Duta (KM9.0 to KM3.0 both directions), the ELITE from Shah Alam to Bandar Saujana Putra (KM1.03 to KM16.2 both directions), and the entire DUKE highway.

Shahzari said the measure is implemented Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM, and from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

The Highway Authority also urges all owners and drivers of heavy vehicles to comply with the regulation during the ban period.
