With the US-China talks set to take place in Switzerland, US President Trump has floated the idea of reducing tariffs on Chinese goods.
He posted on 'Truth Social' saying: 'Tariffs on China at 80% seems just right.'
The US currently imposes a 145% 'reciprocal tariff' on Chinese goods, with cumulative tariffs on some products even reaching 245%.
Trump said: 'Let Bessent decide.'
In another post, he also stated: 'China should open its markets to the US, which would also be good for them. Closed markets no longer work.'
US Treasury Secretary Bessent and US Trade Representative Greer will hold talks with senior Chinese financial officials in Geneva. This is the highest-level meeting between the US and China in months.
