(Kuala Lumpur, 22nd) The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has deployed more than 2,400 enforcement officers to conduct the 2026 "Supervision Operation" to ensure that prices and supply are not manipulated during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Director of Enforcement at the Ministry, Datuk Azman, pointed out that the operation focuses on price tag compliance, price and supply stability, and the 'omnipresence' of enforcement officers.
He told Bernama that with regard to price tag compliance, Minister Datuk Armizan has issued a warning that adhering to price tag requirements is mandatory. If businesses fail to display clear price tags, enforcement officers will take action within 24 hours.
"In terms of price and supply stability, we have yet to receive widespread reports of price surges or serious supply issues, but we will continue intensive monitoring to prevent profiteering."
He noted that the "omnipresence" strategy is one of the main focuses of the 2026 Supervision Operation, where enforcement officers will be stationed in strategic and key areas to ensure that businesses always comply with regulations and uphold commercial ethics."
"Deploying enforcement officers on-site is intended to boost consumer confidence and at the same time remind businesses to adhere to ethical standards."
Azman said the ministry will also ensure that low-price promotions are genuine and not misleading, while curbing the sale of counterfeit or pirated goods at markets.
"We are also implementing online surveillance to monitor e-commerce platforms, ensuring there are no false advertisements or online price manipulation."
He noted that in the 2025 Supervision Operation, 70,906 inspections were conducted, resulting in 390 cases. As for the 2026 Supervision Operation, as of yesterday, 2,830 inspections have been conducted with 34 cases.
He urged the public to become the government’s ‘eyes and ears’ through the KITA GEMPUR campaign. If any violations are found, they can be reported to the Ministry of Domestic Trade through designated channels, and all complaints will be taken seriously by the ministry.
