Ukraine-US Geneva Talks End; Zelensky: The War Must End

Published at Feb 27, 2026 11:35 am
After Ukrainian officials and US envoys concluded talks in Geneva, Switzerland on the 26th, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that he expects the next round of tripartite negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war to be held in early March in Abu Dhabi.

Under US leadership, Russian and Ukrainian officials had previously held negotiations in Geneva and Abu Dhabi, but were unable to reach a compromise on key issues such as territorial disputes.

After the Ukraine-US meeting in Geneva, Zelensky said in a video address on the evening of the 26th that all sides have shown greater willingness for the next round of Ukraine-US-Russia tripartite talks, which may take place in early March in Abu Dhabi.

Zelensky emphasized that the war must end, "this is Ukraine's position." The next round of tripartite talks needs to finalize concrete security guarantees for Ukraine and prepare for meetings at the leadership level.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Umerov, said earlier on social media on the 26th that Ukrainian and US representatives focused on issues of Ukraine's economic recovery during the meeting in Geneva, including mechanisms for supporting Ukraine’s economy, tools for attracting investment, and frameworks for long-term cooperation. The talks also discussed preparations for the next round of Ukraine-US-Russia tripartite negotiations.
