Kent Cheng (Hak Jai) and his wife, Yan Ning, collaborate as both lead actors and producers, as well as screenwriters for the Chinese New Year film "Ha Ha Ha Happy New Year" which has recently garnered widespread attention. Not only does Hak Jai sing a new year song for the first time for a film he starred in, but he also experienced a "miraculous journey" within a short span of 12 hours from song creation to MV filming.
Hak Jai revealed that he has always loved singing and is very happy to be able to create and sing a new year song for this Lunar New Year film. However, what truly moved him and his wife were the friends around them who extended a helping hand without hesitation, helping them overcome many difficulties. Hak Jai expressed, "I am really very lucky to have so many benefactors around me!"
He said that the creation of the song was completely a spontaneous decision. "That day, I was recording the Cantonese version of the movie insert song 'Where Is My Home', when it suddenly occurred to me that this Lunar New Year film should have a festive new year song to add joy to the New Year atmosphere. So, my wife and I decided to give it a try, and unexpectedly, the music teacher not only immediately agreed to help us but also completed the lyrics and recording within 3 hours, it was really crazy!"
The filming of the MV for the movie was equally challenging. Hak Jai recalled, "The recording was only completed around 10 pm that night, and I tried to call the director to see if we could film the MV the next day. The director initially just said 'What?', but within 15 minutes, he rushed to the recording studio with his team to start preparing. He was about to rest, but seeing our tight schedule, he helped us without hesitation."
"Ha Ha Ha Happy New Year" is a collaboration between Kent Cheng and his wife, Yan Ning.
This intense and exciting shoot, Hak Jai, and his wife Yan Ning marveled at the countless friends who helped them along the way. To complete the MV in an extremely short time, they challenged themselves by traveling to 7 filming locations within 8 hours, and all this was achieved with the help of benefactors. "Sometimes we didn't even have time to book a car or makeup artist, but our friends volunteered to take on different roles to help us complete the filming smoothly." Hak Jai also revealed that friends found a "special" God of Wealth role, and this new friend who played the God of Wealth was an artist who quickly arrived and completed the shoot upon learning of their urgent need.
Hak Jai expressed that although the whole process was tense and busy, he still feels very grateful and hopes the film will achieve good box office results to repay all those who helped them. "The success of this movie cannot be separated from every friend who contributed silently behind the scenes. I am really grateful for everyone's help."
"Ha Ha Ha Happy New Year", directed by Ng Pei Keat, the director of "Lock War", features Hong Kong actors such as Jessica Hsuan, Louis Cheung, and Juno Mak, and Malaysian TV King Shaun Tan. It will be released all across Malaysia on January 29th.
