Says if Defeated in Party Election, Would No Longer Hold Office, Rafizi May Again Be Banned from Entering Sarawak

(Kuching 18th) Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said that if he loses in the party election and no longer holds a ministerial position, he may once again be banned from entering Sarawak.
Rafizi, who is also a candidate for the position of deputy chairman of the PKR, stated that prior to being appointed as a minister in the unity government, he was already accustomed to being banned from entering Sarawak. Therefore, it is not impossible that if he no longer holds any party or cabinet position in the future, he could be banned from entering Sarawak again.
“Based on past experience, I am indeed very worried because I was seldom allowed to enter Sarawak. It was only two years ago, after being appointed as the Minister of Economy, that I was permitted to enter Sarawak.”
“If I am no longer the minister and PKR deputy chairman, I think I will be banned from Sarawak once again.”
Rafizi made these remarks during his speech at the “Continuing the Reform Ideals in the Test of Power” (HIRUK) tour event held at the Kuching PCC on Saturday.
Since 2014, Rafizi and several PKR and DAP leaders had been banned from entering Sarawak, but after the formation of the unity government, the ban was lifted.
Additionally, Rafizi stated that his visit to Sarawak this time was not simply to solicit support from Sarawak PKR members to secure victory in the party election.
On the contrary, his trip aimed to inspire Sarawak PKR members to rebuild the strength of PKR even under current disadvantages.
“I am not here to say ‘please help me win,’ especially when everything has already been arranged and this election is unfair... even the meetings clearly indicated that the entire PKR mechanism was mobilized to make me lose and for Nurul Izzah to win.”
“That’s my current situation—running does not guarantee a win, but losing is certain, and this is also the state of Sarawak PKR.”
He pointed out that with the party currently holding only one parliamentary seat in Sarawak, questions have arisen regarding whether Sarawak PKR still holds influence, due to the strong support for local parties in Sarawak.
However, he emphasized that Sarawak PKR members must awaken and be ready to regroup their strength in times of adversity.
“Currently, the central PKR may not be able to provide Sarawak with much resources or opportunities because the political realities here are different. But it is precisely in such low times that it is a good opportunity for us to invest in building PKR’s future strength, such as nurturing new talents within the party.” He stated this.
